Outdoor cables typically require additional protection from the elements, so they may have additional layers of shielding as well. As a result, the colors used are a bit different. Outdoor cables are usually orange, blue, purple, brown, gray and white. Orange is used for single-mode cables, blue for both single-mode and multimode cables, purple for specialized cables, brown for simple connectors, gray for data networks, and white for voice transmission.
